A Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor is actually a kind of AC motor. Its stator runs on three-phase differential AC power, while the rotor is a permanent magnet. However, the biggest advantage of this motor is that the AC energy is provided by DC, which can precisely control the motor and solve the life time problem brought by the brushes.

Said permanent magnet motor can be integrally mounted on the wheel shaft to form an integral direct drive system, i.e., one shaft is the drive unit, eliminating the need for a gear box. The main features of the permanent magnet Synchronous Motor are as follows.

Firstly, the permanent magnet synchronous motor needs to establish the main magnetic field, and the excitation winding establishes the excitation magnetic field between polarities by DC excitation current; then the three-phase symmetrical armature winding is used as the power winding, which becomes the carrier of the induced potential or induced current; when the prime mover drags the rotor to rotate, the excitation magnetic field between two poles rotates with the shaft and cuts the stator phase winding in turn. Therefore, the armature winding will induce a three-phase symmetrical AC potential with periodic changes in size and direction
